Development of new Criminal Justice hub at Middlemoor

As part of her ambitious transformation plans for Devon and Cornwall Police PCC Alison Hernandez has agreed to fund the development of a new Criminal Justice hub on the Middlemoor HQ site in Exeter.

This site will house many of the functions currently undertaken at Heavitree Road Police Station in Exeter, including custody.

The Commissioner said: "I am determined to improve custody for the benefit of detainees and our staff.  This is a major investment but the time is right as part of our wider transformation planning."

The Heavitree Police station site will be sold, and discussions are already underway about how a police presence in the city centre can be maintained.

Superintendent Sam de Reya, Exeter, East and Mid Devon said:  “I consider the move a real positive and an opportunity for even better community and partner engagement with a potential move to the Civic Centre.  Neighbourhood policing will stay in the community with operations and investigations being based just up the road as a base.”

Confidential commercial discussions continue on the other surplus areas of the Middlemoor site.
