Levels of crime
There are 43 Police Forces in England and Wales (plus the British Transport Police). Based on data from the year ending December 2020, Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly had the third lowest rate of crime in England and Wales at 52.3 crimes per 1000 resident population.
The PCC monitors how crime is changing across the force area so that the needs of communities can be better understood. This then influences how a PCC may set priorities for the police (in the police and crime plan), make decisions, work with others and commission services.
