With the news around increasing the precept there has been a lot in the media about how your council tax is spent.
A portion goes to the police service, fire service and local councils.
But, when everyone works together, we get the best value for money. The CCTV initiative in Cornwall is a great example of what can be achieved through partnership working.
CCTV hubs like the one in Tolvaddon help to increase efficiencies, share costs and will help us better link CCTV into police control rooms in an emergency.
10 systems are already connected to the hub – Camborne, Hayle, Helston, Penzance, Redruth, Truro, Penryn, Falmouth, Bodmin are live with St Ives coming online soon.
“Safe, resilient and connected communities are the focus of the Police and Crime Plan and CCTV in our communities plays a fundamental part of that journey,” said Ms Hernandez.
On 18 January 2018, partners gathered in Tolvaddon to learn how this partnership working has been achieved.
Cllr Mike Thomas, chair of the West Cornwall CCTV Group explains that Cornwall Council could not afford to finance both the CCTV equipment and the monitoring which is how the fire service became involved.
"We all want to keep our communities safe, and the CCTV initiative with the help from the Police and Crime Commissioner will help make our communities safer." said Cllr Hannaford.
