Police and Crime Commissioner’s ‘thoughts with people of Plymouth’ after tragic shooting

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly has said her ‘thoughts are with the people of Plymouth’ after a tragic shooting in the city this evening.

Police were called to the crime in Biddick Drive, Keyham, at around 6.10pm.

A number of people have died in what has been declared a critical incident. Several other casualties are receiving treatment.

The area has been cordoned off and police believe the situation is contained.

Members of the public are being asked to stay away and to avoid speculating or sharing pictures of the scene.

Commissioner Alison Hernandez said: “My thoughts are with the relatives of the deceased, those injured and the people of Plymouth after this horrendous and tragic incident.

“I would like to pay tribute to the hard work of our blue light services this evening who have done all they can to deal with those directly affected and get the injured the best possible medical care.

“Anyone affected by what has occurred this evening can make contact with the Victim Support services commissioned by my office. Those services are available 24 hours a day on freephone 08 08 16 89 111 or via live WebChat on victimcaredevonandcornwall.org.uk.”
