Camborne Police Station is set for a further £3m redevelopment after planning permission was granted for improvment works

The popular town of Camborne, sits in the west of Cornwall, just under seven miles from the National Trust’s Godrevy expanse of beautiful beaches and wildlife rich headlands. It has a population of around 20,452 (Census 2021) and like many other areas of Cornwall and Devon, sees an increase in residents during the summer holiday surge.

Work to improve the police station, built in the 1960s, will include a new police enquiry desk and see the removal of asbestos, replacement of windows and a new roof.

The Devon and Cornwall Police estate, consisting of 135 buildings across the peninsula, is owned by Police and Crime Commissioner Alison Hernandez.

She said: “I am pleased that Camborne Police Station can now continue with the redevelopment work that is so desperately needed. This redevelopment, once finalised will provide both staff and the public a building to use that is fit for the 21st century.

“The inclusion of an improved Police Enquiry Office has further enhanced the support available to the public in getting help if they have experienced crime and antisocial behaviour, want to report an incident, or would like advice about how to prevent crime. This is yet another example of my continued investment in bringing face-to-face policing back into our communities in Devon and Cornwall.”

Superintendent Ian Thompson from Local Policing in West Cornwall added: “I am delighted that planning has now been approved. We can now look to submitting plans to main contractors for pricing so that this project can continue.

“It is important that the public are reassured that Camborne front desk (Police Enquiry Office) remains open to them, ensuring face-to face contact with the force is possible.”

This month (January), planning permission was approved with some small conditions around tree protection plan which will give the go ahead on the third and final stage of the building works with the new station hoping to be operational by the early part of next year (2025).

Camborne Police Enquiry Office is open Monday to Saturday 8am to 6pm and closed on Sundays and bank holidays. It is always advisable to check opening times before you visit online here
